Just making sure, some people get butt-hurt super easy. Having conversation isn't stirring up shit even if we disagree. I certainly wouldn't use one for my own cabinets but I've spent more than enough time experimenting and testing all of them. A $100 board turns a $200 cabinet into an $800 cabinet. I buy all the Pandora's boxes and such because people that buy multi games from classified ads love to see xxxx number of games (regardless of how terrible they play). The only benefit you will see is if the entire rest of the budget went towards the highest end cpu that could improve your frame_delay value and reduce your input lag. Running groovymame on a $15 vid card will end you at the same result.
When it comes to arcade emulation you don't need a $2k setup. Most of the games are playing at the wrong speed, have near unbearable lag, clipped and missing sounds, random hiccups, etc. Just because the video shows up on the screen and the joystick moves the player doesn't mean that it plays great. Amazing compared to what? Certainly not the originals. My console cost me $130, and plays really good, so I'm content. Oh, and I have played the 'perfect emulation' setups. I've had really good luck with mine, and like it quite a lot. But the instant dismissal is something I'm not crazy about. I'm not trying to stir anything up by the way. Yes, some of the games aren't super playable, but when 85% of a thousand game console is, that's still a hell of a lot of games. I've purchased one of the 5s devices knowing it was a crapshoot, but I really like it. I am curious why you spent so much money if they were all 'dog shit' as you put it? These things aren't cheap, and seems like a waste of money if you didn't like a single one. I am sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience with it. I'm a big fighting game fan, all the KoF games play great, the Street Fighters up to 3 Alpha, even some of the newest ones like Martial Masters. And it only slowed down in one of the later game bosses when the screen was absolutely full.Īll the Metal Slugs play amazing. The only one that even had a single hiccup was one of the R-Types. Even the later higher graphic intense ones. And so far, haven't had a single issue with any shoot 'em ups. The versions of Tetris it does have plays just fine though.
